want a web site for a reasonable cost?
Mar28
We get a lot of cautious enquiries from small businesses wishing to have or to update an existing site. I say cautious due to the fact they’re usually worried about the cost involved or the thought of facing some geek talking complete gobbledesh*!.
So we sat down and had a cup of tea and some homemade poppy seed cake and decided to produce our own, cost effective, but flexible web site template. Stevenson Photography is an example of a basic template with an additional gallery section.
We built it within an open source CMS (A way of editing the site yourself) called TXP and made sure the underlining code was clean, semantic and web standard plus a few extras slung in.
how do we price this???
Well we thought we would start off with a basic/standard package which includes:
- Home page.
- Additional page, for example “about us”.
- Contact page for your details (micro formatted hcard), a validated enquiry form and an embedded google map if you want one.
- Help and suggestions page, good to have for any feedback or site problems.
- Accessibility page explaining site navigation aides.
- Links page.
- Google Analytics (statistics).
- XML sitemap to assist the search engine indexing.
- 1 years free hosting, £60 annual fee thereafter (paid in advance).
Price: £300
All you need to do is provide us with electronic text, images and your logo.
For domain registration prices, if required, please contact us.
What if I want additional sections/functions? I hear you ask
After some consideration we came up with the following sections and functions which can be bolted onto the basic template:
- Blog/Journal with archive: £200
- News with archive: £200
- Events (micro formatted vevent): £100
- Gallery (categorized with the lovely light box effect): £150
- Downloads (categorized pdf’s in drop-down lists): £70
- Additional bespoke forms with validation: £60 – £90
- RSS news feed: £30
- Site search: £30
- Static section: £30
You don’t have a logo?? how do you survive?
logo design: £150 (bargain)
I must specify the logo would be for web use only, additional cost for alternative use.
I once did a quick cheap logo for someone’s website. A few months later it was splashed across their lorries and stationery.
Not impressed felt very cheated, my own fault though.
Sorry had to get that off my chest.
I don’t want to maintain the content on my site
Well if you don’t want to use your CMS and require Posh’dup to maintain the content, we charge an hourly rate of £30.
Please note all prices shown are excluding VAT.
I need something more bespoke
Bespoke builds, e-commerce, marketing and consultancy are quoted separately.
I hate you and want to leave!!!
We’re sorry we upset you, not sure how but ok you can take the generated output that our template produces (what the public can see), but you can’t have our coded template structure or bespoke plugins, which is housed in TXP the CMS, for that belongs to us POSHED UP LTD.
I think that’s fair for our low cost approach, don’t you?
Finally, please do talk to us if have any questions.
